Just a little over two weeks until this summer’s Michelob Ultra Cool Films series gets underway with The King and I, June 27 – 29. This was, of course, Yul Brynner’s signature role, which he played both in the film and on stage. Brynner won a Tony Award for the original Broadway production (and an Oscar for the film), and he starred in touring productions of the show as well. We recently had lunch with one of our good media friends, Gary Gregory, and he recollected seeing Brynner “command the stage” in a touring production at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati in the early 1980s. Is there anyone out there in cyberspace who has the opportunity to see Brynner on stage?

Click here to check out the original trailer for the movie.

Click here to watch a vintage clip of Yul Brynner and Patricia Morrison perform “Shall We Dance?” at the Tony Awards (isn’t YouTube great?!?!).

There’s still time to play this week’s Ultra Cool Trivia Contest – see the post below for details. Check back often, as we’ll be continuing the contest throughout the summer, and we’ve got some great prizes to give away!

Of course we also want you to come see all these great old films! Tickets are just $4.75 each, making it a great summer bargain! Individual tickets may be purchased at the Victoria Theatre box office the day of the movie, beginning one hour prior to showtime. If you don’t want to wait in line, 10-ticket passbooks are available in advance for $24 – call Ticket Center Stage at 937-228-3630 or click here to buy online.
